Developer and contractor, Watson Homes, has submitted plans to build 118 new affordable homes on the fringes of Bolton town centre.

With funding from Homes England, the development will be delivered for registered providers, Bolton at Home and Irwell Valley Homes, to meet demand for high quality affordable homes in the area.

Located on Chorley Street, adjacent to Queen’s Park, the 5,700 sq. m. site will comprise 118 new homes for shared ownership, affordable rent and over-50s accommodation.

A total of 17 two, three and four-bedroom houses, including four three-storey townhouses, will be constructed for shared ownership – with landscaped front and private rear gardens.

The remainder of the units are apartments, split into three separate blocks ranging from five to six storeys.

Block A will contain 25 units for residents aged 50 and over; Block B will comprise 36 apartments for affordable rent; Block C is intended for Rent-to-Buy and will consist of 40 units.

Ownership of the new scheme will be split between Bolton at Home and Irwell Valley Homes.

At the centre of the site, 62 car parking spaces will be provided for apartment residents, as well as 31 spaces for houses. Entry to the development will be from Chorley Street, using an existing access point already in place.

Designed by TADW Architects, the buildings will be finished to a high specification to complement the surrounding area.

Each apartment will be equipped with Juliet balconies, with a number of units giving tenants views of Queen’s Park and the River Croal, which runs next to the site.

The development is within close proximity to Bolton town centre, benefitting from local amenities and strong public transport links, including Bolton Bus Interchange and the rail station.
